A genuinely old and wonderfully battered metal silent butler with an attached ashtray and cigarette rest, from back when apparently even disposing of ashes required specialized equipment.
Traditionally, a silent butler was a small handled receptacle used to sweep crumbs or ashes from a table. This one appears to have been made specifically with smoking in mind, with a shallow ashtray section attached to the side and a raised rest for holding a cigarette.
The exact metal is unknown. It has a dull silver-gray appearance that could be tin, pewter or another metal alloy, but there are no markings I can find that allow me to identify it confidently, so I'm leaving it at metal rather than promoting it to pewter based on vibes.
Today, I think it's considerably more interesting repurposed for an altar or ritual space. The long handle and shallow tray make it useful for catching ash from incense, Palo Santo or ritual matches, while the original cigarette rest can hold a small stick of Palo Santo, as shown in the photos.
It is old, worn, tarnished and imperfect. That's precisely why I bought it.
Altar & Ritual Uses
Use it as an incense ash catcher, Palo Santo holder, ritual match tray or simply as an unusual vintage object for an altar or curiosity cabinet.
Because the metal composition and history are unknown, I would use it for catching cooled ash and holding ritual objects rather than burning charcoal, resins or other extremely hot materials directly on the metal.

Vintage Condition
This is a genuinely aged and heavily used piece. Expect scratches, tarnish, oxidation, discoloration, dents, spotting, surface wear and other imperfections consistent with age and previous use.
The attached ashtray and cigarette rest appear to be joined to the main piece as part of its construction. I have not attempted to polish, restore or alter the existing finish.
