At first glance, this is a beautiful classic Lenox urn in their warm ivory porcelain. Then you get to the bottom and discover it has clawed feet, which is precisely where it stopped being somebody's grandmother's flower vase and became something I wanted for an altar.
The body has a wide flared opening with ribbed detailing around the lower portion, balanced on a pedestal supported by three sculpted feet. The monochromatic ivory keeps it elegant while the unusual base gives it just enough weirdness.
It would be beautiful filled with fresh flowers, dried botanicals, feathers, branches or whatever seasonal bits you've brought inside because apparently some of us cannot walk past an interesting stick without giving it a new home.
Magical & Altar Uses
Use it as a dedicated vessel for altar flowers or offerings, seasonal botanicals, herbs, feathers or other natural objects connected to your practice.
I particularly like the combination of vessel and claw here. A vessel can represent receiving, holding and containing, while those strange little feet give the piece an almost protective or guardian quality.
It could work beautifully on an ancestor altar, devotional space, seasonal altar or anywhere you want a dedicated vessel for something you're honoring, inviting or keeping present.
And absolutely none of that is required. You can put flowers in the weird foot vase because you like the weird foot vase.
