Some fruit is just fruit. The pomegranate has never had that luxury.
In Greek mythology, Persephone ate pomegranate seeds while in the Underworld with Hades, binding her to return below for part of each year. Her descent and return became entwined with the changing seasons, death followed by rebirth, darkness eventually giving way to life again.
And standing at the threshold between worlds is Hecate, goddess of witchcraft, magic, night and the crossroads.
That's what makes this necklace interesting to me. The pomegranate isn't simply a pretty little charm. It carries centuries of symbolism around cycles, transformation, feminine power, death, rebirth and what happens when we cross a threshold and can't return as quite the same person.
