This little brass grasshopper has a surprisingly wonderful amount of detail for something small enough to sit in the palm of your hand. Long articulated-looking legs, textured wings and those enormous front-facing limbs give it plenty of personality from every angle.
Grasshoppers have long been associated in different cultures with good fortune, abundance, forward movement and opportunity. And the symbolism makes perfect sense: this is a creature built to leap.
For me, that makes it a great little altar figure for those moments when you know where you want to go but haven't quite convinced yourself to jump yet.
Place it with money work, intentions involving a new opportunity, a career change, a move or anything else that requires getting yourself out of one place and into another.
Or put him on your bookshelf and let him mind his own business. He is very small. We don't need to give him a full-time job.
Mystical & Altar Uses
I especially like the grasshopper as a symbol for luck, prosperity, progress, opportunity and leaps of faith.
Use it on a prosperity altar, beside a written intention for a new opportunity, with crystals or other objects associated with abundance, or as a small talisman when you're working toward a change that requires courage and forward movement.
Because a grasshopper primarily moves forward rather than retreating in the way we tend to imagine other creatures moving, it also makes a lovely reminder not to spend forever staring at the door you already walked through.

Pre-owned condition with surface wear, darkening and variations in the brass finish. Small marks and imperfections may be present from previous handling and age.
I have not polished the piece and have left the existing patina intact.
