Now she came prepared.
The dress. The ruffles. The flowers. The little black bow perched in her hair.
And that expression.
Not smiling exactly. Not serious either. More like someone just said, “Are you coming?” and she's thinking about whether the evening will improve once she gets there.
This antique mounted studio portrait probably dates to around the turn of the 20th century. Unlike a standard cabinet card, it's a slightly smaller format measuring approximately 3⅞" × 5 5/16", with the photograph presented inside an elegant oval mount.
There is no visible photographer's information on the front, so unfortunately her identity and where the portrait was taken have been lost along the way.
Which, frankly, makes her more interesting.
Who was she?
Where was she going dressed like this?
Was this her favorite dress? A special occasion? Did she insist on the flowers herself?
We don't know.
She's been separated from her name for more than a century, and now the photograph is the only part of her story still talking.
I have not done a psychic reading on this photograph, so whoever adopts her gets first crack at figuring out exactly what Miss Fancy Pants has to say.
