If the Haunted Mansion had actually hired its staff in the Victorian era, I believe we've found management.
This antique carte de visite features an unidentified woman with her hair swept back into a beautifully severe braided style, buttoned dress, high collar and an expression that says she has already seen what you did and doesn't require an explanation.
She isn't spooky in the theatrical sense. There are no black veils, mourning clothes or obvious Victorian gothic theatrics.
She just has the energy.
The housekeeper who has worked at the manor for 37 years. Knows which staircase makes noises when nobody is on it. Keeps one particular bedroom locked. Will tell you that you absolutely did not hear a woman crying upstairs.
And if you insist otherwise, that's really your problem.
Of course, her actual identity and story are unknown. That's part of what makes these old photographs so fascinating. Someone knew exactly who she was. Someone kept this photograph. Eventually her name disappeared, while her face remained.
I have not done a psychic reading on her, so whatever story she may carry is still completely unexplored.
She'd be fabulous tucked into a Victorian gallery wall, cabinet of curiosities, ancestor-style altar, haunted house display or used for psychometry, intuitive work and spirit communication.
Or adopt her because your house could use someone who looks capable of keeping both the living and the dead in line.
Condition
Authentic antique condition with warm toning, fading, spotting and age-related wear. There is a visible tear/crack extending into the lower right portion of the photograph and mount. Edge and surface wear are present. Please review photos closely, as her age is showing and we aren't pretending otherwise.
