Sir.
The camera is right here.
And yet this unidentified gentleman has chosen to stare just past us with the unmistakable expression of a man who knows something and has already decided we're not getting it out of him.
The severe dark oval surrounding the portrait only improves matters. Add the high white collar, formal suit and rather fabulous shirtfront, and the whole photograph has the feeling of somebody being questioned about an incident he absolutely did not witness.
I don't know his name. I don't know his story. And, judging by that face, he wasn't planning on telling us anyway.
An especially good little relic for a Victorian gallery wall, cabinet of curiosities, Halloween display or your own intuitive practice. Put him near your tarot table and see whether he eventually decides to talk.
No psychic reading has been performed on this photograph, and no paranormal claims are being made. Whatever he's avoiding is between him and whatever is happening six feet to our left.
