Ladies, we have another contender for the position of Dead Boyfriend.
And this one cleaned up for the occasion.
This antique carte de visite features an unidentified young Victorian gentleman with slicked-back hair, formal jacket, crisp white shirt and bow tie, surrounded by a thin gold-toned border.
He isn't smiling, naturally. Apparently nobody told Victorian men that looking vaguely pissed off in your photograph might become considerably funnier 140 years later.
But he's handsome. He's put together. And unlike some of the gentlemen around here with facial hair attempting its own westward expansion, this man kept things simple.
A sharp-dressed man.
His identity has been lost, so I can't tell you whether he was actually charming, romantic, financially responsible or an absolute nightmare. That's the gamble one takes when adopting a boyfriend from the 19th century.
I have not done a psychic reading on him, either. So his personality, history and potential supernatural baggage remain completely unexplored.
Display him on your vanity, tuck him into a Victorian gallery wall, add him to your cabinet of curiosities or ancestor-style altar, use him for psychometry or intuitive work, or simply put him in a little antique frame and invent an elaborate story when someone asks who he is.
“Oh, him? That's my boyfriend. He's dead.”
No further explanation required.
