Some people thrive on spontaneity.
I don't believe this gentleman was one of them.
This antique carte de visite features an unidentified Victorian man with a magnificent full beard, formal suit and the unmistakable expression of someone whose life probably operated according to a very dependable schedule.
Coffee at the same time. Same chair. Same route into town. There is a correct way to do things, and presumably he would be happy to explain it to you.
Obviously, I know none of this.
But look at him.
Unlike some of the more theatrical characters in my collection, there is something wonderfully steady about this gentleman. He feels less like someone who would cause trouble in your house and more like someone who would be deeply irritated to discover the trouble had disrupted his evening routine.
His identity and actual story have been lost to time, which leaves us with the photograph, the beard, and an entirely unreasonable amount of confidence that this man knew exactly what time dinner was.
I have not done a psychic reading on him, so his actual story remains unexplored.
A wonderful old photograph for a Victorian gallery wall, cabinet of curiosities, ancestor-style altar, antique photo collection, psychometry or intuitive work.
Or adopt him because perhaps your household could use someone who looks like he expects everybody to get their shit together.
