There was apparently a time when wishing someone a merry Halloween involved placing a small child beside a pumpkin large enough to swallow him whole. I miss the confidence of old postcards.
This original antique Halloween postcard reads “Ho! For A Merry Hallowe’en” and has all the good stuff: a massive grinning jack o’lantern, a little costumed figure, a slightly suspicious moon peeking through the trees, embossed details, and metallic gold accents that catch the light.
The reverse is handwritten and addressed to Miss Marguerite Gipse in Warren, Illinois, with a one cent U.S. postage stamp still attached. There is no visible postmark, so I’m not assigning it an exact date. The card is marked Printed in Germany and Series No. 7151.
Whether you collect antique Halloween ephemera, use old imagery in your altar or divination space, frame seasonal oddities, or simply believe modern Halloween cards aren't nearly weird enough, this one deserves another hundred years of attention.
Condition
Antique condition with age related wear. There is a bent/creased corner and a small tear or split along the lower edge, visible in the photographs, along with other minor surface and edge wear consistent with age. The postcard has been written on and retains its original one cent stamp, but there is no visible postmark.
Please review all photos closely. This is an original old piece and its age and imperfections are part of what you're buying.
