An antique baby cabinet portrait with an inexplicably dramatic single eyebrow, oval presentation mount, and exactly the sort of tiny unsolved mystery that belongs in a cabinet of curiosities.

An antique baby cabinet portrait with an inexplicably dramatic single eyebrow, oval presentation mount, and exactly the sort of tiny unsolved mystery that belongs in a cabinet of curiosities.

I have questions.

Mostly: what happened with the eyebrow?

This antique baby portrait shows a very serious little person propped in an upholstered chair and almost completely swallowed by an enormous white christening gown. But look at the face. One eyebrow appears unusually dark and defined while the other seems to have simply declined participation.

Was it drawn in? Retouched by the photographer? Actually there? I genuinely can't tell, and I'm not going to ruin a perfectly good mystery by pretending I can.

The photograph is presented in an oval opening on a substantial textured cabinet-style mount with an embossed photographer's mark at the lower right. The reverse has faint handwritten notation near the top, but I can't confidently decipher it.

This would be a great addition to a cabinet of curiosities, antique photo wall, Halloween display, Victorian-inspired altar, spirit photography collection, or as a photo to use for your own intuitive or psychometry practice.

And unlike some of the portraits I've sold, I have not psychically read this photograph. Whatever One Eyebrow Baby has to say is between the two of you.

Condition

Authentic antique condition with age-related toning, fading, spotting, surface wear and discoloration to the photograph and mount. The mount shows additional age and handling wear.

The unusual dark eyebrow is visible in the original photograph. I do not know whether it was photographic retouching, hand enhancement, or simply the child's actual eyebrow.

Please examine the photographs closely as they are part of the condition description.
