Amethyst has a very long history as a protective stone and is traditionally associated with intuition, spiritual awareness, mental clarity and calming an overactive mind. It's one of my favorites for psychic and divination work because the goal isn't necessarily to get more information. Sometimes you need enough quiet to sort the useful information from the static.
