When it comes to the woo-woo and the flu, I've got the essential oils and the crystals you'll want to bring into your routine as you fight off the icky of the winter season.

Before we dig in, let's talk about why you would even consider using crystals and essential oils for helping you to fight off a cold or flu.

We humans have a vibrational frequency, actually more than one throughout our body. When we're feeling great and healthy our vibrational frequency is high.

When we're sick and feeling like the pits, the vibrational frequency goes low.

Heck, you can even notice your vibrational frequency going low when you eat crap food, right?

Your mind and behaviors play a part in your health - negative thoughts and not watching your hands are going to lower your vibrational frequency.

Crystals assist your body to entrain with their stable frequency emitted from their crystalline structure when they are in your personal energy field.

Essential oils also have very high frequencies. By using crystals, essential oils, or both you are allowing your body to entrain with their high vibrations.

Crystals

Quartz crystals are the number one choice when you're looking for a crystal ally to help you with healing. Clear quartz crystals are an excellent choice for any of your crystal needs and that's why it's also great in helping you work with it to raise your vibe and help your body fight off the infection.

Carnelian (part of the cryptocrystalline Quartz family), Aventurine (a part of the Quartz family), and Larimar (sodium calcium silicate) are also great crystals to work with when you've got a cold or flu.

How to use crystals for cold/flu:

  • Gem Elixirs - drop in your glass water bottle

  • Gem Tea - steep your tea with Carnelian and Aventurine

  • Put a crystal or three in your pocket or bra

Essential Oils

I love working with essential oils, whether I'm sick or not. Essential oils have their own frequency that you can work with for their vibrational healing benefits.

The beauty of working with our plant friends is that they have the ability to energetically affect our subtle energy bodies beyond their various healing properties.

Eucalyptus essential oil  - reduces fevers + fights viruses

Eucalyptus essential oil was used as an antiseptic oil in the late 19th century. It's also been found to be to help boost your immune system.

It has been proven to kill 22 types of bacteria, such as E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus, which can be resistant to antibiotics, but bacteria aren't likely to build up a resistance to this essential oil.

It's also been shown to be very effective against the swine flu (H1N1) and other viruses.

Inhaling Eucalyptus can be helpful for flu symptoms but consult with your doctor as it has been reported to being able to cause seizures if swallowed.

Tea Tree essential oil - fights infections and inhibits bacterial growth

Tea Tree essential oil has also been found to fight against fungi, bacteria, and viruses. It's been found effective against Staphylococcus as well as viruses that can cause the common cold and flu.

Sage essential oil can be effective against viral infections helping you to get rid of the infection sooner than if you left it untreated.

Lemon essential oil - antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties; clears nasal passages

Lemon essential oil is perfect for boosting your body's natural immunity.

Oregano essential oil - exhibits potent antiviral activity against a variety of different viruses

Lavender essential oil - antiseptic and antibacterial; boosts your immune system and helps you resist diseases and viruses

Essential Oil Blends - Clove, Wild Orange + Cinnamon (also known as OnGuard or Thieves) decreases infection and influenza virus activity was suppressed by its use

Caution Using Essential Oils

While essential oils are natural that doesn't mean that you can use them without the risk of adverse reactions. Before using them, it's important to research each oil you intend to use.

Dilution is the best course of action when working with essential oils if you choose to apply them topically. They can irritate your skin or your mucous membranes, especially if you have sensitive skin.

Essential oils may also interact with your prescriptions, supplements, and medications, so you should check with your doctor in this case.

Bergamot essential oil, and other essential oils, can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight leading to a severe sunburn.

If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, you're advised to NOT use essential oils as it's unknown how exactly they can affect you as there is not enough research on the topic.

Also, essential oils shouldn't be used on children younger than seven years old.

How To Use Essential Oils

Using a diffuser and inhaling essential oils is the best method for working with essential oils to combat the flu. You can put a few drops in a cotton ball, get one of those aromatherapy necklaces or inhale directly from the bottle. This helps to clear your nasal passages.

You can also try these methods by adding a few drops (a little goes a long way):

  • in a diffuser

  • in carrier oil

  • in a steamy bath or bowl to inhale

  • cold or hot compresses
