The Real Truth About Conflicting Crystals

the real truth about conflicting crystals

Are conflicting crystals even a thing? You bet your sweet bippy it’s a thing.

If you've ever wondered if there were crystal combinations that you should avoid, you're in the right place. Now, before we dig in I don't want you to worry that you're going to be sending your energy into permanent chaos if you happen to have combined these crystals together before.

It's not so much about a bad crystal combination doing bad things to you as much as you not getting the full healing benefits of combining crystals that work together in harmony.

But how would you know that you're experiencing the side effects of conflicting crystals in the first place?

You may feel overwhelmed like your energy is all over the place. I believe everyone has their own unique experience with crystals so trying to pinpoint what exactly you could feel would be impossible, you know your body better than anybody so if you feel out of sorts when working with a certain crystal combination that should be your clue to reassess what you've selected.

If you're feeling uncomfortable then you should look at the crystals you're wearing or have in your home to see if they collectively are working towards a common goal.

Also, you need to pay close attention to the individual results that you're experiencing as certain crystals do not gel with certain people. The longer you explore and learn about crystal healing you'll discover that everyone's interaction with crystals is a unique experience that while many can have similar experiences, there are some who will have the exact opposite reaction.

For instance, many, many people will say that Moldavite is too strong for them meaning they are either having a physical or emotional reaction to working with it. For me? I don't have those types of intense experiences like that at all and that could be that a) my body has become used to its vibration b) the crystals need to be cleansed or c)or it's not the right time for me to work with it.

And that last bit is so very, very key - often times when you're drawn to a crystal that you see online or hold in a crystal store, the reason you're drawn to it is that your body wants to work with it to achieve some goal. So always pay attention to what crystals you're naturally drawn to.

That being said, when you're new to crystal healing the sensation can be unusual and your body and mind need time to acclimate so taking a slower approach may be the perfect way to start.

How To Avoid Selecting Conflicting Crystals In The First Place

The key to selecting the right crystal combinations in the first place is first thinking about the intention.

When we select crystals for a design client we are looking to help them heal from something. (When you sign up for the course, you get a client questionnaire to help you address these issues.)

And probably the #1 issue that most people on the planet experience is not being grounded. People can experience this by having anxiety, not feeling safe, restlessness, feeling tired a lot of the time and often try to make those uncomfortable feelings go away for the time by indulging a wee bit too much in eating, drinking or smoking. And you can see how this turns into a vicious cycle.

With that being said, if you are trying to heal an out of balance Root Chakra (which is the chakra associated with those feelings mentioned earlier) you would then have some guidance on how to select crystals for this purpose.

You could select the crystals based on the color of the chakra. As interior designers, we already know how powerful color is and the specific vibrational frequency from specific colors can be the guide to selecting the right crystals to work with for the purpose of balancing out the Root Chakra.

Another way to look at it is within a room, using two conflicting colors together isn't a good thing unless you're trying to flip someone out and give them a case of the vapors. Same thing for combining crystals.

Now, back to healing the root chakra by color. The Root Chakra is associated with the color red and that's why carnelian, garnet, and red jasper are excellent choices but that's not the only way you can select crystals.

You could also look at the symptoms you're trying to address. With the Root Chakra, we mentioned anxiety and not feeling safe. In that case, you may want to work with Hematite, Black Tourmaline or Tiger's Eye.

  • Hematite: A mineral of iron oxide, its name is from the Greek word for blood (red) and is an excellent crystal for grounding (counteracting confusion and feelings of being unsafe) so you can connect back to the Earth's energy.

  • Black Tourmaline: The no-nonsense member of the Tourmaline family is the ultimate when it comes to purifying your auric field and aiding your body to rid itself of negative self-talk and anxieties.

  • Tiger's Eye: From the Quartz family, Tiger's Eye works with the Root Chakra helping you to take action when you've been stuck in the vicious circle of feeling anxious, unsafe and turning to substances for security so you can bring your energy fully into the here and now.

Even if you didn't know a thing about crystals you could see once you looked up the practical uses for each of these crystals you could see they are all working together for a common goal.

Conflicting crystals come into play when the pairing of two or more crystals have different goals. For instance, if I'm looking to relax I wouldn't want to combine Vanadinite and Lepidolite.

Vanadinite is like crystal meth (the legal kind...HA!) for me. It keeps me working and focused on my task while Lepidolite is micanized lithium (yeah the stuff big pharma puts in the pills) and is used for anxiety. Logically, the combination isn't working for a common goal if you've got one crystal that's about boosting energy and the other is all about calming the energy down.

But again if you've found yourself with what isn't a harmonious crystal combination the world won't end. You'll likely just cancel out their effectiveness like when you're taking antibiotics and decide to drink alcohol which could lessen the effectiveness (or worse) of the antibiotic.

Can You Use Too Many Crystals At One Time?

You may have experienced this if you've walked into a crystal shop and felt like you've just flashed back to being a mom with a toddler that wants to ask you a bazillion questions in rapid-fire succession. Your brain is overwhelmed and you feel like you're been dropped into suspended animation unable to get your bearings for a few moments.

You could also feel a similar feeling when you've decided to just randomly choose a handful of crystals to place near you or in your pocket. Especially if you're new to crystal healing and you're not used to the vibrations.

The general rule is to work with no more than 3 crystals at a time. I like to bend that "rule" and sometimes have six crystals in my pocket with me. It's like for me and some of my goals, I need more than the "recommended dosage." Nonetheless, any crystals that you choose to work with should be selected with one goal in mind to achieve.

Crystal Combinations To Try Instead

There are a few different ways to select crystals to combine together...

  • Similar elemental content or same mineral group

  • Similar or complementary colors

  • Same Zodiac sign association

  • Same Chakra group association

  • Similar healing properties

Start with the goal you're looking to achieve with crystal healing. I believe when someone is looking to work on a physical ailment it usually has an emotional root cause that should be attended to in the energy system of the body. With that being said, when deciding on a crystal narrow down whether you're focused on finding a crystal remedy for a physical or emotional issue.

From there you should be able to narrow down which crystals you should do your research on to come up with a perfect crystal combination.
