Shungite The Great Healer

Shungite is a fantastic rock. Well, a mineraloid, to be exact, and Peter the Great says so.

We'll get to him in a minute, but first, a little information on Shungite.

What is Shungite?

Shungite is a mineraloid which means that it is a naturally occurring, inorganic solid that doesn't have a crystalline structure.

It comes from a small village called the Shunga Village in the Karelia region in Russia. It was identified in 1879, and all shungite comes from Russia.

Shungite is primarily carbon, but its carbon molecules come together so that it resembles a soccer ball skeleton.

This hexagonal carbon nanostructure structure (its fullerenes) was discovered when three scientists studied Shungite, winning them the Nobel Peace Prize in Chemistry in 1996.

Its carbon nanostructure plays a vital role in breaking down the walls of bacteria and viruses before they can invade the human body, making them responsible for why Shungite is effective at healing.

Shungite is an antioxidant, antimicrobial, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory stone protecting from harmful EMFs. But you're only going to find the highest concentrations of fullerenes in Elite Shungite, which will get to later when we talk about the different varieties.

Now back to Peter.

Tsar Peter the Great of Russia started a spa in Karelia (Northwest Russia) in the 18th century on the shores of Lake Onega. He named his spa Martial Waters which doesn't sound too relaxing to me, but I digress.

Lake Onega has a large deposit of Shungite, and the waters that flowed through these stone deposits impressed Peter. An article was written during this time ("Inquiry on the True Properties of the Martial Waters of Konchezero") documenting the illnesses treated with these waters.

This is why Peter instructed his soldiers to carry a piece of Shungite in their water flasks so they could always have purified, clean water to avoid getting dysentery.

In ancient Rome, engineers lined the aqueducts with Shungite to keep their water clean.

Back in the day, Shungite was the go-to stone in helping to treat skin diseases, bug bites, bruises, tooth disease, hair loss, cosmetic issues, allergies, easing aches and pains, and so on.

Why Use Shungite?

Shungite is an excellent grounding stone, a stone for purifying, and great to combat EMFs.

EMFs are ElectroMagnetic Fields created by electrical currents. There are natural EMFs built up by the earth's magnetic field, allowing a compass to orient to the North/South direction.

But EMFs are also created by WiFi, smart technology, TVs, stereos, fluorescent lights, microwaves, computers, cell phones, etc.

EMFs are linked to insomnia, fatigue, and other terrible health issues. So by strategically placing Regular Shungite throughout your home, you can reduce your exposure to EMFs.

Putting a piece of Shungite near your pillow or next to your bed can help you get a better night's sleep.

Wearing or carrying a piece of Shungite can help you stop the harmful effects of EMFs when you're out and about.

Noble Shungite purifies water by removing bacteria, phenol, manganese, chlorine, nitrates, nitrites, iron, and micro-organisms without having to boil or chemically treat the water additionally. Purification of the water takes roughly 6 hours.

I love drinking my Shungite water because I find that it tastes better than bottled water (that weird chemical taste goes away), and it's calming.

It's also great for grounding. In my experience, most people need grounding as the Root Chakra is the one usually out of balance, but you'll know for sure if you need grounding if you experience any of the following:

  • Forgetfulness

  • Fatigued

  • Fear

  • Late to appointments or deadlines

  • Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or nervous

  • Hard time focusing

  • Losing your train of thought

You can get a Shungite cube (any shungite will work, really, but a cube symbolizes stability) and place it at your feet or in the seat of your chair and relax for a spell.

Shungites are also great stones to work with if you're looking to take a deep dive into your past lives and connect with ancient wisdom to help you align with your purpose.

You can also pair Shungite with any crystal to help purify the energy wherever you're doing your crystal healing.

Shungite is beneficial to your plants and is currently used in sustainable farming because it contains essential minerals that plants love.

Finally, if you find it hard to manifest, you may want to work with Shungite to help you do that work of grounding you to grow what you desire.

Not all Shungites are the same.

  • Type I/ Silver/Elite/Noble Shungite has the most carbon content, around 90%+. It's impossible to carve this type of Shungite as it is fragile, so it always appears as a natural silvery black rock.

This form of Shungite is said to be the most effective for water purification, EMF shielding, and other for other healing.

  • Type II/Petrovsky Shungite has about 50-70% organic carbon content, a dark grey color, and is relatively rare. Usually, you'll find it in its natural form, although it is carved into products.

  • Type III/Black Regular Shungite has the least carbon (30-50%) and is easily shaped. Most items you see sold as carved Shungite like cubes, pyramids, spheres, jewelry is made from this type of Shungite.

How To Make Shungite Water

You can go about it in two ways, either the direct or indirect method.

  • The indirect method is where the Shungite does NOT interact with the water. Instead, the container holding your water will touch the shungite.

  • The direct method has you submerging your Shungite stones in water.

You'll Need:

  • 4 Oz. of Elite Shungite* per 1/4 Gallon of pre-filtered water. (An 1" Elite Noble Stone is approximately 1/2" ounce, so for this recipe, it would mean that you need seven (7) 1" stones.)

    • *Black Shungite doesn't have as much carbon and is mixed with other minerals, including heavy metals that you don't want in your water, so that is why Elite Shungite is a better choice for the direct water method.

  • A glass container

  • Pre-Filtered water (makes for a more efficient process when the water has already been through a filtration process)

Directions:

  1. Rinse your Elite Shungite to remove any fine dust by rubbing them in your hands until the water runs clear. Boil your stones to cleanse them if you want to be extra sure.

  2. Place the rocks in the glass container and fill your container with water. For your first batch, let it sit for 12 hours. Then, as you drink the water and fill it back up, 6 hours should do for subsequent batches.

  3. Every 4-6 months, set the stones in the Sun to "burn off" the accumulated impurities such as fluoride, chlorine, and nitrates from the filtered water it has been purifying.
