Don’t concern yourself with what “the market will bear.” People sell fucking air in a jar.
There is someone who wants what you have. You are worrying about the wrong problem.
What you should care about is why what you’re offering matters to them. You should care about how you’re going to change their lives for the better. You should care about the shit that keeps them up at night. You should care about becoming their trusted resource. You should care about them more than what the “market will bear”.
Do you think Starbucks considers the market when they sell $4 drinks? Nope. It’s about a brand.
What you are selling is your brand which is a promise of an experience. That is not something that you can measure by the “market”.
Who are you? Are you showing up as yourself or some digital patchwork of someone else online? Blog posts, social media status updates all falling flat? That’s because they are soulless. Either you’re following a formula because you’re too busy to really give a shit about the messages you put out online or you’re constantly copying what the successful people are doing because you don’t know who you are.
Listen. The clock is ticking and if you don’t start showing up here pretty soon, we’re gonna check out and move on to the next thing.
Oh, but you’re scared? We are all scared but the people who choose to show up despite the fear are the ones who will win. And believe me, there’s not a lot of them so your chances of slaying online? Fucking awesome.
Why should they care? Your client is not out there looking to buy from a logo. They want to buy from a person. So show up as one.
Tell them what you stand for, what you don’t stand for. Tell them what your fears are, tell them what your dreams are. Share stories with them where they can say “me, too”. The stories that you’re saving in your brain aren’t doing anyone any good there. Get them out into the world because your stories and message are just as important as anyone else’s.
