Being unique will help you market your interior design business. A lot of people dismiss Katy Perry, but you could take a lesson from a page out her songbook and let it inspire you when you revamp your brand. Let's look at how Katy Perry could inspire that next brand move.

I didn't want to be a fan

I swore it wasn't going to happen, but it happened. I became a fan of Katy Perry. I tried so hard not to like her songs. The first song I heard was "I Kissed a Girl", and while I had no desire to try it out, I couldn't get that damn song out of my head.

So here we are and I love her music. I'm not sure about her choice in men, but put that aside, we have lots of things to learn from her that we should all be applying to learning how to market our interior design business.

1. Go ahead, Roar!

I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath Scared to rock the boat and make a mess So I sat quietly, agreed politely I guess that I forgot I had a choice

Do not be afraid to fly your freak flag. People will love you more if you do. Hiding any part of yourself is doing a disservice to all of us. I mean it's like dating a man with a sock in his pants and finding out the truth. Throw the sock out and show us your "peacock". More on that later.

2. Who Are You Living For?

I am ready for the road less traveled Suiting up for my crowning battle This test is my own cross to bear But I will get there

It's never easy to be chosen Never easy to be called Standing on the front line When the bombs start to fall I can see heavens But I still hear the flames Calling out my name

I can see the writing on the wall I can't ignore this war At the end of it all Who am I living for?

Who are you living for? Are you seeing the writing on the wall and ignoring your true calling? Maybe you are offering all the same services that your competitors are, but is it what you really want to be doing with your life? Being a pseudo copycat?

3. Part Of Me

This is the part of me That you're never gonna ever take away from me, no This is the part of me That you're never gonna ever take away from me, no

Throw your sticks and stones, Throw your bombs and bones, But you're not gonna break my soul.

This is the part of me That you're never gonna ever take away from me, no!

Now look at me I'm sparkling, A firework, a dancing' flame You won't ever put me out again I'm glowing', oh woa,

Do you have a Negative Nelly in your life? If you find yourself surrounded by people who do not support your life's work, then eff them. They just are afraid that once everyone else sees your brilliance, they won't be able to be such a big part of your life anymore, and that's okay. You have my permission to shed that extra weight (if you needed someone's permission). If you want to have an outrageous brand online, but it feels too unprofessional, do it. There's a way to make any brand awesome.

4. Get Your International Smile On

She's got that, je ne sais quoi, you know it So très chic, yeah, she's a classic But she's footloose and so fancy free Yeah, she dances to her own beat 'Cause she's the muse and the artist Always leaves a trail of stardust 'Cause she's a little bit of Yoko, And she's a little bit a, oh no

From LA, Miami, to New York City

That girl's a trip, a one way ticket Takes you miles high, so high, 'Cause she's got that one international smile Catch her if you can Yeah, she's so in demand Takes you miles high, so high, 'Cause she's got that one international smile

I like to think she wrote this just for me, but of course it's for all of us. Not having the same design aesthetic that every other interior designer has is a good thing. You have to stand out to get noticed online, so if you can allow yourself to dig deep, and acknowledge that really interesting part about yourself and use it as your personal brand stamp, you'll be unstoppable.

5. Let me see your Peacock

I want the jaw dropping eye popping, head turning, body shocking Oh, ay, oh, oh, oh, ay, oh I want my heart throbbing, ground shaking, show stopping amazing Oh, ay, oh, oh, oh, ay, oh

Are you brave enough to let me see your peacock? Don't be a chicken, boy, stop acting like a beeotch I'ma peace out if you don't give me the payoff Come on, baby, let me see what you're hiding underneath

Alright, I'm not really wanting to see your peacock. Well, unless it's fantastic! I mean your brand, of course. Your brand needs to be jaw dropping, eye popping, head turning, body shocking good. That sounds like a tall order, but if you're already living the meanings of the previous songs, you've got this.

But now I wonder how I couldn't be a fan?

You are the key ingredient to having a successful brand. And it will evolve, but every brand will flop when it isn't true to itself. If you need help with your business and how to market it, let's talk about it.  I hope you're brave enough to let us see your peacock wearing nothing but your international smile while you show me the part of you that you're living for. Roar!
