What are your goals for 2018?
Ever start the new year and think to yourself that this year will be different than last year? Only to find that you end up practically living the same year over again. The only difference is the clients and a handful of events? Yep. Been there. Done that. Over it.
If you want 2018 to look different than this year, you need a strategy. A strategy that leads to you specific outcomes for your business. Then you can work backward on how to get there.
I'm not talking about making some crazy ass goals that are unrealistic. I'm talking about focusing on the things in your business that will make this year a lot better. More clients? More money? More time?
What will it take to get there?
You likely already know some of the steps it will take to get you there but you probably knew what those were last year and resisted it.
The source of resistance comes up when we have to take off our creative hat and put on the "boring" business hat. But, if you don't ever wear that business hat it will eventually get taken away when your business dies.
Put on that business hat and start measuring the results of what you are doing. And I don't mean what you think is happening, I mean tangible results.
Did you place a Facebook ad to grow your email list? How much did you spend and how many sign-ups did you get?
Once people were on your list, how many people converted into paying clients?
How many people visited your website? How many of those people contacted you? How many then hired you?
Knowing your numbers is key to any strategy you have in your business. If you don't know your numbers you really don't know how your business is doing.
The Next Move
Your next move isn't to grow your followers on Instagram or Facebook. Your next move isn't to do what everyone else is doing.
Your next move is to get clients.
Followers and fans don't pay your bills. Clients do.
You need a plan for YOUR design business and what works for someone else, may not work for you. But you can take bits and pieces of everything out there to come up with a strategic plan for your business.
