I Don't Belong Here
When you feel like you don’t belong in the interior design industry because you feel like it’s too different I need you to read this and then take action.
I know there are many reasons why you feel like this.
You don't have a degree in interior design.
You don't have a portfolio that is "worthy."
You feel unsupported when it comes to making your dreams a reality.
You're petrified when it comes to posting anything "real" online.
You couldn't possibly write a blog because you don't know what to say.
You can't share your website with anyone because it isn't perfect.
You can't sell design services because you assume no one will hire you.
You copy someone else's business because it is just like what everyone else is doing.
You don't say what's really on your mind because when you have, you get hurt.
I don't want them to think I'm too woo woo.
Now you've ended up with a protective armor that is so many layers thick that it is preventing you from showing up and sharing your gifts with the world.
The thing is that I'm gonna need you to shed that protective armor and realize that you are not going into battle.
Your perceived enemy doesn't give as much thought to what you want to do with your life as you think they do.
I'd like to think of the people who have passed through your life and are currently in your life as little gnats.
Sometimes they run into you, sometimes threatening to come into your space and fuck shit up, but most of the time when they do bother you, they're on cruise control spreading shit sparkles everywhere that they go.
Time is fleeting. You're not going to get any younger and there seriously is no better time than now. You are wasting time and energy hiding in the protective armor that had served you very well when you were a child.
Stop worrying about what other people think or what you THINK they will think about you. You were born with a purpose, and no one can take your place on the stage.
You belong here and now is the time that you must show up. And not in the "peeking in from behind the curtain" way.
Your role as a holistic interior designer means that your purpose is to help others heal. Whether that means that you're going to facilitate bringing their design dreams into reality or that you're going to create a healing space that rejuvenates another soul. You need to see this as the sign that your real work needs to start now.
Take your interior design business from hot mess to hotness.
